I thought I had an organized, well thought out baby registry (for a first time mom at least). I did countless hours of research and watched hundreds of baby registry and mom must have videos. Yet. There I was at 2 a.m., three days after delivery, frantically searching the internet for everything from the best nipple creams for cracked nipples to which type of baby saline nasal spray I needed to unclog teeny, tiny nostrils. Postpartum panic-buying strikes the best of us. But not to worry—I’m here to make sure it doesn’t happen to you. I’ve rounded up all the things I bought (and loved) during my first few weeks postpartum.
From swaddles, night lights, sleepers, these products will make your first few weeks as a new parent a little less stressful.
A Night Light
Touch Sensor Dimmable Night Light (Amazon)
By far one of my best most used items I bought postpartum. It's total lifesaver for those 2 a.m. feedings and diaper changes when turning on a real light feels like an attack on your eyeballs.
It’s small, portable, and turns on with a quick tap (perfect when you’re half-asleep). The glow is just right—not blinding, not too dim. I kept one on my nightstand and another in the nursery for months. And now? My toddler carries it around like it’s his new favourite toy.

Silverette Nursing Cups
These silverette nursing cups SAVED my breastfeeding journey. For the first few days after my milk came in, my nipples were cracked, blistered and bleeding. I dreaded nursing my baby because it was toe curling pain.
Silverette cups are easy and comfortable to use-no other cream or lotions are needed and are 100% natural, safe and effective. Thank god for amazon prime because kid you not the pain was almost all gone within hours of using the silverettes, I will forever swear by these and will recommend these to any new mom.

Onesies With ZIPPERS and ZIPPERS Always
TRUST ME you do not want to be struggling with button snaps in the middle of the night or at all even. My baby lived in zipper onesies for the first few months. Did I forget that you change your newborn’s diaper approximately 76 times each day? (Yes.) Did I forget that dressing a newborn is like trying to wrangle a teeny, tiny wiggly octopus? (Also yes.)
Zippers ALWAYS.

Heart Rate/Oxygen Monitor
Owlet Dream Sock (Amazon)
As a first time mom, my mom anxiety was at a peak. I woke up every 30 minutes with my hand on my baby's chest. The owlet sock gave me peace of mind, especially during those first few months when sleep deprivation and anxiety are at their peak. It tracks heart rate and oxygen levels, alerting you if anything seems off. This can be especially helpful for preemies or babies with health concerns. Newborns make all kinds of noises (or sometimes no noise at all), which can make you feel on edge. A monitor gives you reassurance without having to constantly check on them. Knowing I’ll get an alert if something is wrong allowed me to sleep more soundly. While it’s not a replacement for safe sleep guidelines, it adds an extra layer of reassurance when your baby is in their crib or bassinet.

A Giant Waterbottle
HydroJug or Simple Modern (Amazon)
It's so easy to forget to take care of ourselves postpartum. You finally sit down for a meal and all of a sudden the baby needs to be fed or a diaper needs to be changed. It's so so so important to stay hydrated. (Especially if you're a nursing mom.) Keep a big water bottle by you at all times. (It'll ensure you don't constantly have to get up to fill it.)
My two favourites are the HydroJug and Simple Modern tumbler, both sleek, have such cute colours and designs, holds 40 fl oz, and most importantly keeps your water crisp and cold.

Velcro Swaddles/ Zip Up Swaddles
Basically a cheat code for new parents. Let’s be honest, trying to wrap a traditional swaddle while sleep-deprived at 2 a.m. is basically impossible. Velcro/Zip swaddles are quick and hassle free, and you're done in seconds. Babies tend to wiggle out of traditional swaddles, which can wake them up. My baby LOVED to sleep with his arms up so my personal favourite pick is the Love To Dream Swaddle.
A zip up or velcro swaddle stays snug all night helping babe sleep longer. Plus, theres ZERO guess work! When you're freshly postpartum, anything that makes life easier is a win!
Velcro Swaddle 3 Pack / Zip Up Swaddle (Amazon)

A Cool Mist Humidifier
16 Hour Humidifier With Night Light (Amazon)
$50-$60
A definite MUST HAVE item in babes nursery. I live in Alberta and it is drier than a Sahara desert over here . Babies' skin is delicate and can dry out easily, especially in colder months. A humidifier helps keep their skin soft and hydrated. Newborns also have tiny, sensitive airways, and a humidifier keeps the air moist, making it easier for them to breathe (especially if they have a stuffy nose). A humidifier is also a natural way to ease congestion and keep them comfortable when they're sick.
Nursing Pads
Disposable Or Reusable Nursing Pads (Amazon)
Self explanatory. I couldn't even tell you how many shirts I've leaked through and ruined throughout my nursing journey.
$16-$25
Milk Collector
Haakaa Ladybug Milk Collector (Amazon)
By far one of my favourite nursing products. I was able to collect SO much milk with these ladybug milk collectors. The Haakaa Ladybug Breast Milk Collector collects any natural letdown that would otherwise be lost in a disposable nursing pads.

A Manual Breast Pump
$49.97
I ended up ordering a manual pump right after delivery and was so happy that I did. If I felt engorged and uncomfortable, I didn’t have to bust out my giant Spectra; instead, I used the manual pump for a few minutes just to take the edge off. Same if my baby only ate off of one side and my other side felt really full. The manual pump was fast and effective and left me with fewer parts to clean.
